hey dudes,
lets spice the season up a little. everyone throw down a quick sketch of what our 'the big 4401' logo should look like and we can collab, mashup, use, post whatever we come up with for 2010. just thought we could energize the site a little and its a fun collab we can all do in about 20 min.

CONTINUOUS THISTLES- Advanced Drawing Procedures
(1) Digital scripting tests explored within Processing, then exported as a live vector source:

(2) Digital to Analog filtration is expressed by various fabrication techniques allowing for new opportunities:

(3) Analog stitching on acrylic plates provides an enhanced intended relationships and connections. All stitching is one continuous thread:

(4) A triptych is then used to describe an iterative series and sequence of opportunities within the designer's applied rule sets:

I created this series of of collages with inspiration of found imagery, textures, objects, words, numbers and scenes - then interpreted, placed, and arranged the scenes. adding motion to the flatness of the collage with illustrative systems of simple machines like pin connections, joints, pulleys, ropes, hatches, swing arms assert movement. each panel/fold is representative of an act, a starting point and together are one play.

Using 13 billboards along the city's downtown freeways, Olivier has replaced the usual advertisements with images of the urban landscape that would be visible if the billboard did not exist - the sky, trees, and buildings obstructed by the ads will now be "revealed.
As a native Houston I find that this instillation strikes numerous chords with me. To begin with, the idea that there is one less billboard in the world brings peace to my day. Also, the idea that the average commuter might notice these and maybe question these objects that have become part of everyday life.

As a side note the artist recieved major funding to pay for the advertising space. This only perpetuates the idea that these advertising companies will do anything for a buck, even if it is a direct critique of how their business models have lead to an over saturation of clutter throughout the city.
